At the 2010 Arkansas Women's Show, we'll take advantage of a captive audience to increase awareness for heart disease, the leading cause of death in women.
The Arkansas Women's Show has committed to raising funds for the Arkansas Go Red for Women organization, a growing portion of the Arkansas chapter of the American Heart Association. As part of that commitment, we're donating the proceeds from a variety of custom Women Show products, like recyclable bags and aprons, to the Arkansas Go Red for Women effort.
We'll also provide several opportunities for women to receive valuable information about their heart health and free health screenings. Other activities hroughout the Women's Show and the marketing leading up to the show will help increase awareness and prevention of heart disease in women.
What is Go Red for Women?
Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's national campaign to increase awareness of heart disease, the leading cause of death for women, and to inspire women to take charge of their heart health. The grassroots campaign has grown to a vibrant national movement as more women, men, celebrities, health care professionals and politicians embrace and elevate the cause of women and heart disease. The yearlong campaign kicks off at the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon in April, then continues to provide women of all generations with tips and information on healthy eating, exercise and risk-factor reduction, such as smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood-pressure control and blood-cholesterol management.
Go Red for Women has four components:
- Public education to increase awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
- Educating health care professions to assure that providers treat women according to guidelines.
- Educating lawmakers about the issue.
- Raising funds for women's awareness, education and research programs.
